Welcome to our Island
Thanks for visiting our little island. For those visiting us for the first time, let us explain where you are, and how we got here on Kokomo Island.
It was late winter of 2007, on a very cold and windy Sunday on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, it was 20 degress and a hockey game was on, while Charlie, my very special partner and I were sitting in our living room discussing the terrible weather and how we both wanted to go where it's warm. So we made a large batch of boat drinks, put on a Buffett CD and began talking about a quick flight out of Norfolk, VA. to one of those tropical places they are always talking about in the Sunday travel sections. We discussed Aruba, Jamaica, St. Bart's, Belize, and the Keys. When Charlie said with a big Margarita smile "I see nothing advertised here for Kokomo", and we had another Boat Drink. Of course, being the geographer in the family, I asked her "exactly where is Kokomo? Is it out in the ocean or in the Gulf of Mexico? Is it closer to Key Largo or Key West"?
Being the map person she is, Charlie broke out the Atlas. Try as we might, we couldn't find an island called Kokomo. We even phoned the public library and asked them where is Kokomo Island? But the nice lady said she couldn't find it in her data. Hey, we even tried the Internet, but couldn't get the latitude or longitude. In frustration, we put on another Buffett CD and broke out some Corona, while we tried to find our island. The music and tropical drinks had an amazing effect because we felt as though we had escaped to that warm leeward place called Kokomo. So I immediately rummaged through my closet in search of the perfect Aloha shirt, a wise man once told me, son, you can never own too many Hawaiian shirts. I found just the right one, and Charlie put on the cutest tropical sundress. It was no longer a cold and blustery day, in March, but the beginning of a Tropical Holiday.
So, put away your maps and your global tracking device, have a tall adult beverage and listen to some steel drum music while you visit the special tropical place they call Kokomo Island. We hope while you are here, you find something at Kokomo Island Traders that will help you always be able to take a trip to Kokomo.
Aloha,
Charlie and Richard
P.S. There is no state tax on Kokomo, unless you live in North Carolina |
